JASPER, GA — Pickens High School has been recognized by the Georgia Department of Education as both an AP STEM School and an AP STEM Achievement School, highlighting the school’s commitment to expanding student access and success in advanced coursework in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Advanced Placement (AP) courses allow students to engage in college-level coursework while still in high school and can provide opportunities to earn college credit. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) focused AP courses help students build critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and technical skills that are increasingly important in today’s workforce.

The AP STEM School designation is awarded to schools that administer at least five Advanced Placement (AP) STEM courses during the school year, including mathematics, science, and computer science offerings. The AP STEM Achievement School recognition is awarded to schools where students demonstrate strong performance in those courses. Specifically to receive AP STEM Achievement school recognition, schools have at least 50% of the students earning a score of 3 or higher on those AP STEM tests.

These recognitions reflect Pickens High School’s continued dedication to preparing students for college, careers, and future opportunities in high-demand STEM fields.

“Earning any recognition involving Advanced Placement testing is exciting news, especially when the news includes the successful performance of our students on these demanding exams,” stated Superintendent Dr. Travis Thomas.

Pickens High School continues to expand opportunities for students through rigorous academics, career pathways, dual enrollment, and innovative instructional programs designed to support student achievement and future success.
