Medication Management
All medications other than the exceptions listed in BOE policy JGCD, whether prescription or over-the-counter, may be administered only in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Pickens County Board of Education in this policy. Any student possessing prescription or over-the-counter medication not in accordance with the guidelines will be considered in violation of the school district’s drug policy and shall be subject to a referral to a disciplinary tribunal.
All medications, prescription and/or over-the-counter, must be taken to the school nurse by the parent/guardian. All medicines (prescription and non-prescription) are to be kept in the school clinic and administered there, except for emergency rescue medications for asthma, anaphylaxis, seizures, and diabetes). Students carrying emergency rescue medications MUST have a Permission to Carry form on file in the school clinic as well as a written plan of care signed by the doctor. Students are not permitted to transport prescription and/or over-the-counter medications, except for the above mentioned.
