Why is PCSD Reconfiguring our Schools
At Pickens County School District, every decision we make begins with one question:
What is best for our students?
After carefully studying student learning, grade-level transitions, instructional practices, and the long-term needs of our community, the district has made the decision to transition to a K–5 Elementary, 6–8 Junior High, and 9–12 High School model beginning with the 2027-2028 school year.
This following four principles have guided our work in creating a stronger educational experience for every student.
Building A Stronger Foundation
By keeping students in a consistent elementary environment through fifth grade, schools provide uninterrupted instruction that strengthens core academic skills and fully prepares them for junior high.
Fewer School Transitions
Students will stay in elementary school through 5th grade, cutting down on stressful campus moves and providing greater stability for our students and families.
Tailored Learning Environments
Grouping students of similar ages allows schools to customize instruction, support systems, and activities to meet the unique needs of each age group.
Stronger Academic Success
More continuous time in the same school builds deeper relationships with teachers and peers, better preparing students for high school and beyond.
Together, we are building a stronger future for every Pickens County student.
