One deserving educator in Pickens County is hitting the road in style—at least for the next year. In a heartwarming show of community support, the Pickens County School District, in collaboration with Tutton CDJR of Jasper, surprised the 2025–2026 District Teacher of the Year, Amanda Abbott of Hill City Elementary School, with a one-year lease on a brand-new all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S.
The special presentation took place on Monday, June 9, when Drew Tutton, owner of Tutton CDJR of Jasper, personally handed the keys to Abbott, who teaches kindergarten and has served Pickens County students for 24 years.
“For us, it’s an honor to give back to the people who make the biggest difference and influence in our community,” said Tutton.
Tutton’s support for educators comes from personal experience. At age 17, he dropped out of high school to begin working in construction. But his high school football coach wouldn’t let him give up. He tracked Tutton down on a job site and encouraged him to return to school. Thanks to night classes and determination, Tutton graduated on time. That experience, he says, fuels his lifelong passion for supporting education and helping mold the next generation.
“It’s a blessing to know there are people in our community who believe so deeply in teachers and show their support in such incredible ways,” said Abbott. “To work in a district that partners with community members, and to see those members celebrate educators, is a truly amazing feeling. Hearing Mr. Tutton’s story and knowing I’m making a difference—even on the hard days—makes it all worthwhile.”
Amanda Abbott was named Pickens County School District’s 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year during the district’s annual banquet in May. Her dedication to early childhood education and long-standing commitment to students and families in Pickens County has made her a beloved figure among peers and parents alike.
