On May 7th, we hosted our Annual ESOL Parent and Family Night. Parents and families of our ESOL students throughout the district were invited to come and learn more about the ESOL program, the supports their students receive, ways to help their students at home, and how to read the ACCESS test results. Families got to play BINGO for fun door prizes and every student left with books to read at home. Everyone was also treated to Kona Ice!

Behind so many successful students is a mother, grandmother, step-mother, or guardian cheering them on. Thank you for supporting and encouraging our students every day.

We’re excited to host our PREP to Launch Day for our 7th–12th grade students on May 14th from 9:00-1:00. This is a day focused on helping each student take a meaningful step toward their future.
Students will have the opportunity to practice job interviews with supportive community members and district staff, highlight the skills they’ve been building, and explore different career paths. They’ll also learn more about what it takes to earn a high school diploma and move into meaningful employment.
We’re really proud of the growth our students are showing, and we’re grateful for the community partnerships that help create these opportunities and support their success.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week! It’s a chance for us to recognize the people who show up for our students every day.
This is a great week to remind your child’s teacher they’re making a difference. A simple note, a quick message, or just your child taking the time to say “thank you” can mean more than you realize.
To our PCSD teachers, we are thankful for the work you do and the care you bring into your classrooms. You are a big part of what makes our schools feel so special.
We’re thankful for you, this week and every week.

School Lunch Hero Day is today, and these ladies work tirelessly to make sure all of our students are fed, cared for and ready to learn!
And here’s something we are super proud of… every single one of our school cafés earned a perfect 100 on their 2 health inspections this year. That’s 12 scores of 100 across PCSD schools. That doesn’t happen by accident. It takes consistency, pride, and a whole lot of hard work! Thank you for your dedication!

More than 80 years after leaving high school to support the U.S. war effort during World War II, 103-year-old Jo Edna Niblett has finally received her diploma. As part of the iconic Rosie the Riveter workforce at Bell Aircraft, she helped build aircraft critical to the war effort, sacrificing her education to serve her country. This week, Pickens High School in north Georgia awarded her an honorary diploma during a Military Enlistee Night ceremony. The moment connected generations, as today’s students preparing for military service honored a woman who stepped up in a time of national need. With few members of the World War II generation still living, her story represents a powerful and closing chapter of American history. Visit www.PickensCountySchools.org for the full story.
